Funeral for murdered Tampa 14-year-old to be held on Saturday

Community, state and local officials will attend to show their support.

Jevario Buie, 14, was found shot to death near the railroad tracks between Busch Boulevard and Rome Avenue in Tampa.

TAMPA, Fla. — The family of the teen who was shot and killed near railroad tracks is holding a funeral service and burial for him on Saturday morning.

Jevario Buie was killed in April and left near the railroad tracks between W Busch Boulevard and Rome Avenue. So far, no one has been arrested in connection with his death. 

Buie was an eighth-grader at Memorial Middle School who played football. His family described him as a jokester who was just a regular teen.  

“Javario was always laughing,” said his mother, Jasmine Baldwin. “He really loved his family, his sisters; he would always protect them.”

The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at Bible-Based Fellowship Church of Temple Terrace in Tampa. Community, local and state officials will attend including State Attorney Suzy Lopez. Several organizations combating gun violence will also be there

The service will be followed by a car caravan to the Orange Hill Cemetery where Buie will be laid to rest.
