WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A 31-year-old man was arrested in connection to a deadly shooting that happened Saturday night in Lakeland, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Shannon Owens is accused of shooting a man at around 11:20 p.m. in the 5500 block of Deeson Road, which is within Hillsborough County.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they say they found Owens being detained by several witnesses.
Homicide detectives say they believe the man fatally shot arrived at the property, spoke with Owens and soon after, a gunshot was heard.
Witnesses reportedly discovered the man with an upper body gunshot wound and Owens attempting to remove the body. The witnesses detained him until deputies arrived.
"I commend the work of our deputies and detectives who worked hard to determine what happened and hold the person responsible for this murder accountable," Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement.
Shannon Owens now faces several charges, including second degree murder.
The investigation of the incident remains ongoing.
