Tampa police investigate deadly crash on Gandy Boulevard

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Police Department is investigating a deadly crash that happened early Saturday morning off of West Gandy Boulevard.

According to a news release, officers responded to the scene of the crash at 1:12 a.m. where a black 2009 Honda Civic hit a man.

The man reportedly got out of his car on the busy roadway and tried to cross the highway. This is when police say he was hit by a car traveling westbound.

Officers on scene found the man on the road unresponsive, the agency explains. Lifesaving measures taken were not successful, and the man died at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the car that hit the man stayed on the scene with law enforcement.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
