TAMPA, Fla. — A bullet fired into a woman's leg when she slapped a gun out of a robber's hand.
The shooting happened around 6 a.m. Saturday in the area of Grove Point Drive and Plantation Boulevard, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office news release.
Deputies say the woman, aged in her 70s, was outside her home feeding the neighborhood cats when a young man approached with a gun and demanded money. She gave him a small amount of cash out of her pocket, and the suspect walked away.
However, deputies say the woman followed the man, who told her to go away while pointing the weapon. She slapped the gun, but it fired into her leg.
The man ran off, while the woman was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff's office at 813-247-8200.
