Tampa police search for body at Ybor City home with already dark history

Police say no human remains have been located at this time, but additional investigation continues.

TAMPA, Florida — Detectives in Tampa are searching for a body outside an Ybor City home with some already brutal history.

Over the past few days, investigators with the Tampa Police Department and Florida Department of Law Enforcement have been at the property on East 5th Avenue, after “investigators received information that a body may have been buried on a residential property,” TPD said in a statement.

The same home, as Tampa Bay Times first reported, is the exact site of a brutal and infamous 1930s murder, in which Victor Licata killed his parents and three siblings with an axe.

According to the current homeowner, this search apparently has nothing to do with that.

10 Tampa Bay spoke with homeowner Kurt Schleicher on the phone, who says officials told him the search is related to a man who rented a room there in the 1980s and reportedly admitted to killing a woman and burying her in the backyard while on his death bed.

Schleicher says police first contacted him a few months ago and began digging last week. He says he knew about the Licata murders when he purchased the place, but didn’t know about this latest situation.

Not confirming all the details, Tampa police said no human remains have been located at this time and added that the investigation is ongoing.
