Judge set bond for alleged prostitute at $1 billion

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A Columbus judge made sure a woman accused of running two brothels won't be bailed out of jail. He set bond at $1 billion.Michael Jackson's $3 million bond pales by comparison. And Kim Freeman is hardly a high-profile figure. Police say she isn't even the top person at the two massage parlors raided Wednesday night. But assistant prosecutor Greg Peterson said it was feared she would flee if she could post bail, because Freeman and three others accused of being involved in the brothels are from Asia and have extensive connections throughout the United States. So prosecutors asked Municipal Judge Scott VanDerKarr for a high bond and he chose $1 billion. To get Freeman out of jail, a bail bondsman or deep-pocketed friend would have to post ten percent of the amount, or $100 million. The other three women have bond hearings this morning.
