Man gets life sentence for fatal robbery

A Tampa Bay area man has been sentenced to life in prison for his part in a robbery that left two people dead.

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) - A Tampa Bay area man has been sentenced to life in prison for his part in a robbery that left two people dead.

A Pinellas County judge sentenced 33-year-old Spencer Peeples on Monday after he pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. The Tampa Bay Times reports that prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty in exchange for his plea.

Authorities say Peeples and 30-year-old Khadafy Mullens were robbing the Central Food Mart in St. Petersburg in August 2008 when Mullens fatally shot store owner Mohammad Uddin and customer Ronald Hayworth. Mullens also shot another customer who survived.

Although Peeples didn't pull the trigger, he was convicted under Florida's felony murder law.

Mullens was sentenced to death in August.
