Teen killed after driver crashes into bicycle in Hudson

Troopers say the teen wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

HUDSON, Florida — A 15-year-old teen was killed Thursday morning after a driver hit him in Pasco County, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on Kitten Trail in Hudson. According to FHP troopers, a 31-year-old Hudson man was driving a Dodge Charger eastbound on Kitten Trail, which is a dark and unlit roadway.

When the driver got to the intersection of Thompson Avenue, he encountered the bicyclist, identified by his school on Facebook as Myles Farago, also going eastbound on Kitten Trail. The bicycle didn't have any lights and Farago was riding in the travel lane.

Troopers say that despite trying to avoid hitting him, the driver struck the rear of the bicycle. Farago, who troopers said wasn't wearing a helmet, was seriously hurt as a result. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died, FHP said.

Farago was a student at Hudson Academy. The school issued the following statement:

"It is with a heavy heart that we are informing students and staff today about the passing of one of our Cobra students. Due to an unfortunate accident on the way to school, Myles Farago, was struck by a car. He is being remembered as a kind, caring and talented student. We have the crisis team on campus to help staff and students with their grief. Please keep his family in your prayers and respect their privacy during this difficult time."

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family cover funeral expenses. Click here if you would like to donate.
