FHP: Pasco school bus drives into path of car, causes crash that killed driver

No students were aboard the bus. And the bus driver was unharmed.

SAN ANTONIO, Fla. — UPDATE (Nov. 5, 2021): Sadly, the driver who was injured in this story has died at the hospital. This article has been updated.

A car driver died Friday after colliding with the side of a school bus that failed to yield early Wednesday morning at an intersection in Pasco County, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers say the Pasco County school bus was heading north on Old Tampa Bay Drive when it turned onto SR-52 and drove into the path of the eastbound sedan just after 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The car became wedged under the bus, trapping the 59-year-old New Port Richey woman who was driving it. She was wearing a seatbelt but still suffered major injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. On Friday, the woman died of her injuries.

The 50-year-old Land O' Lakes woman who was driving the bus was not hurt. A 35-year-old Wesley Chapel woman, who was a passenger aboard the bus, wasn't injured either.

No students were on the bus at the time.
