Canceled Fourth of July fireworks show in St. Pete leaves thousands wanting answers

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Thousands of people were figuratively and literally left in the dark after officials called off a major fireworks show in St. Pete on the Fourth of July.

City leaders posted on multiple social media accounts that their vendor had technical difficulties, and that the show would not go on as scheduled.

Disappointed attendees quickly took their frustration on social media.

Rodd Zeitler wrote on the city’s public Facebook page, “Bad call!!!! Everybody else in Pinellas had fireworks tonight.”

Delonda Hadden Boyd also chimed in with, “Bummed. We waited for an hour, which is hard for kids.”

The city said there are no immediate plans to reschedule the show.

The city of Temple Terrace also canceled its Fourth of July fireworks show due to inclement weather. Temple Terrace city officials are not planning to reschedule.

Inclement weather also forced the city of Gulfport postponed its fireworks show to 9 p.m. Thursday.
