St. Petersburg police: Mother of 2 killed in shooting an 'innocent bystander'

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A mother of two children who died in an overnight shooting was said to be an innocent bystander.

It happened as a crowd of people gathered around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the area of 18th Avenue S and 16th Street S, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department. Police say it's believed an argument between two people led to the gunfire.

Arnieceia Milton, 23, was standing nearby when she was shot, police said. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman tweeted about the shooting, saying in part: "It will impact countless people forever."

Police are asking any witnesses to the shooting to come forward with information that could help lead to an arrest.

Tips can be sent anonymously by texting the letters SPPD and the tip to TIP-411. A cash reward also could be available by calling Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-TIPS.
