Suspect in shooting death of Lakeland 3-year-old turns himself in

Authorities have been searching for Kevarius Green since the March 11 shooting that left two people dead, including 3-year-old Jaquez Norton.

LAKELAND, Fla. — A man wanted in connection to the shooting death of a Lakeland 3-year-old turned himself in to police Tuesday morning.

Police say around 11:20 a.m., homicide suspect Kevarius Green, 30, turned himself in to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office alongside his attorney. A warrant was previously issued for Green for two counts of first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and attempted first-degree murder.

Authorities have been searching for Green since the deadly March 11 shooting in the area of 1850 Cambridge Cove Circle.

That night, four people were sitting in a Toyota RAV4 at the Cambridge Cove Apartments after visiting a friend. The occupants included 3-year-old Jaquez Norton; his 3-month-old sister; their mother, 21-year-old Yeimarie Baez; and 23-year-old Robert Einzig.

While they were trying to leave the complex, investigators said three men in a white 2014 Dodge Challenger blocked them in head-on.

According to police, that's when 30-year-old Green and 22-year-old Kemarius Wilson approached the RAV4 with guns. Kemarius' brother, 22-year-old Demarius Wilson, reportedly remained in the Challenger.

Investigators said during that confrontation, gunshots were exchanged, and Einzig fired back while Baez ran from the car with her 3-month-old. It was during this exchange that police believe 3-year-old Jaquez Norton was shot and killed in the back seat of the car.

Demarius Wilson and Green reportedly got back in the Challenger and fled the scene. According to investigators, Kemarius Wilson was placed into another car and taken to Lakeland Regional Health where he was pronounced dead.

The Challenger was later found covered with a black tarp at a home on West Crawford Street near Lincoln Avenue.

While Green has turned himself in, police are still asking for the public's help in locating Demarius Wilson, who they say attempted to hide the Challenger after the shooting. He is wanted for tampering with evidence.
