A growing number of sick coyotes are being found along the Suncoast

Wildlife officials said more development in the area is to blame.

VENICE, Fla. — People in Venice said they’re seeing more coyotes than usual, and they don’t look so good.

Wildlife officials told WWSB an increased amount of development in the area is cutting down on the coyotes’ space to roam and access food, water and shelter.

The Wildlife Center of Venice said it typically rescues about five coyotes a year; and already in 2019, the center has picked up six.

Wildlife officials told WWSB if the coyotes they’re called out to check on are able to walk and eat, the center usually just lets them be.
