Sarasota tornado damage

After tornado warnings for multiple counties in the Tampa Bay area, it appears that Sarasota County has received the most damage.

Severe weather started around 1 a.m. on January 17, and affected many parts of the Bay area, including two fatalities in Manatee County

Sarasota Fire Rescue reported multiple rescues throughout the area, mainly in Siesta Key. At least one condo is uninhabitable for residents at the Excelsior Condos. The American Red Cross is meeting with residents in the clubhouse to make sure they have somewhere to go. If not, they will get vouchers for hotel rooms for a few days.

According to the Sarasota EOC (Emergency Operations Center), the area was at a Level 2 which is a hazard specific activation.

Firefighters, police and public were called in to help with and assess the damage. To get in touch with the Sarasota EOC, call (941) 861-50000.
