Scientists say sea foam washing up on Siesta Key may have red tide toxins

Researchers are warning parents not to let their children or pets ingest this sea foam.

SIESTA KEY, Fla.-In addition to seashells, some beachgoers in Sarasota have also been seeing white foam washing on shore.

Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium says sea foam forms when decay from an algae bloom in the water is churned up.

Scientists warn not to let your pets or children play or ingest it because red tide toxins in the water can be present in sea foam.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will include sea foam presence in its red tide reports. Sarasota has had low concentrations of red tide lately.
