SARASOTA, Fla. – With just one day left to persuade voters to cast their vote in his favor, Donald Trump made a final push in Florida Monday morning before a crowd at Robarts Arena in Sarasota.
Some supporters lined up as early as 6 p.m. on Sunday to guarantee a good spot. Others started arriving before dawn on Monday, despite the event not starting until 11 a.m.
Trump’s visit to Florida comes as a new CBS News/New York Times poll showed the two rivals as tied at 45 percent in the state, with Clinton having a slight lead of less than two percentage points nationwide.
Without a win in Florida, 10News political analyst Lars Hafner says it will be virtually impossible for Trump to win the presidency.
Still, support at Monday’s rally was strong, even bringing out voters well beyond the legal age who have never before cast a ballot for president.
"This is actually the first [presidential] election I've ever voted in,” said Kelly Eckersen. “I've never voted for a president before because I just didn't care. I always thought one vote didn't count. So it doesn't matter that I didn't make it to the polls. And now I know, every vote counts."
Trump will make four more campaign stops Monday before voters make their decision Tuesday on who the next president will be.
