Irving has surgery on broken hand

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving underwent successful surgery on his broken right hand on Wednesday.

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving underwent successful surgery on his broken right hand on Wednesday.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Thomas Graham and Cavs team physician Dr. Richard Parker, and it was confirmed that Irving is expected to be ready for training camp in September.

Irving suffered the injury during Saturday morning's summer league practice when he slapped the padding on the wall at the practice site. X-rays taken at Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas confirmed the fracture to a bone in that hand.

The 20-year-old Duke product averaged 18.5 points and 5.4 assists over 51 games during his rookie campaign with the Cavaliers en route to earning NBA Rookie of the Year honors.
