Pirates' Randall Simon fined for sausage incident

Milwaukee - The woman inside the sausage costume that was hit by Pittsburgh’s Randall Simon tells a Milwaukee TV station “it just seems ridiculous, it’s like a big sausage getting hit by a bat causes all this controversy.” Nineteen-year-old Mandy Block was in the Italian sausage costume when Pirates first baseman Randall Simon hit her with a bat during Wednesday night’s game at Miller Park. While she and another sausage fell and scraped their knees, Block says says she tumbled because she’s so small and it’s such a big costume. Simon was booked for misdemeanor battery after the game, but yesterday was cited for disorderly conduct by the sheriff’s department and fined 432 dollars. Simon says he didn’t mean to knock down the women and has given them both autographed bats. Simon didn’t play in Pittsburgh’s 5-to-4 victory over the Brewers. Jeff Suppan tossed a complete game giving up eight hits and Aramis Ramirez hit a three-run homer. Pirates players moved into the dugout and away from the field during the sausage race, won by the Italian sausage.
