Pedestrian trail along Courtney Campbell Causeway closed temporarily for maintenance work

FDOT says the closure is expected to last for two weeks, depending on weather impacts.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Heads up for runners, bikers and walkers — the Courtney Campbell Causeway Pedestrian Trail Bridge is closed for the next two weeks after local leaders announced it is going under maintenance.

The Florida Department of Transportation announced it would begin maintenance work after closing the bridge at 7 a.m. Monday.

A warning sign can now be found on each side of the bridge for drivers on the road who are unaware of the closure, however, FDOT says traveling should not be impacted by the construction. Instead, people looking to walk the trail won't be able to and will need to go elsewhere for the time being.

Part of the maintenance includes slope protection and concrete cap repairs at the ends of each access road under State Road 60.

Most construction work is expected to be done during daytime hours, FDOT says.

The organization says construction activities are expected to finish during summer 2024, but note that weather could impact that progress.
