Semi-truck hangs off overpass after crash on Polk Parkway East

All lanes of Polk Parkway East were temporarily closed at Old Dixie Highway but reopened overnight.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — A semi-truck was left hanging off the side of an overpass after a crash Wednesday evening in Polk County.

The Florida Highway Patrol says it was called around 6:15 p.m. to a crash on Polk Parkway East at Exit 18: Old Dixie Highway.

Troopers say the driver lost control, causing the truck's trailer to rotate counterclockwise while veering onto the east shoulder.

While the semi-truck continued north, the trailer "completely destroyed approximately 300 feet of guardrail (all the way down to the asphalt)," FHP said.

All lanes of Polk Parkway East (State Road 570) were closed in that area for hours, with traffic exiting onto Old Dixie Highway. The road reportedly reopened overnight.

No one was hurt in the crash.

Editor's note: FHP previously said there were injuries in relation to the crash but has since said no one was hurt.
