Fewer cancellations and delays after Wednesday's storms passed

Storm systems in the eastern portion of the U.S. caused the impacts to stack up.

TAMPA, Fla. — As the storms in the Tampa Bay area moved through the area, there are fewer cancellations and delays on Thursday.

Wednesday's storms in the Tampa Bay area and other parts of the country caused more than half of the flights in and out of Tampa International Airport to be delayed or canceled.

There are currently 15 cancellations and 63 delays as of 9:15 a.m., but last night 308 of the 561 total flights were delayed, and 80 were canceled, according to data from the airport.

TPA officials confirmed most of the impacts were weather-related. A big system spreading across much of the eastern United States brought heavy downpours and potentially severe weather throughout Wednesday. Airport leaders said TPA is one of many with flight schedules taking a hit.

At Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, 11 departing flights out of 16 total experienced delays and two were canceled. All arrivals were delayed, save for one which was canceled, according to flight status on Wednesday afternoon.

At that point, more than half of the Allegiant flights arriving at St.Pete-Clearwater International Airport were delayed. Three of the five departures were also delayed.

The airport said it recommends anyone traveling check with their airline for the latest flight information.
