There's a 70% chance a tropical or subtropical storm develops this week

At this point, the system is not a concern for Florida.

The National Hurricane Center is tracking a tropical wave east of the Leeward Islands.

Environmental conditions are expected to gradually become more conducive for development over the next several days.

The system is forecast to move westward to west-northwestward for the next few days, passing near or north of the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and the southeastern Bahamas. If the storm gets named, it will be named Patty.

Our spaghetti plot shows most of the models eventually curving the storm north into the Atlantic, so at this point, it’s not a concern for Florida.

A very strong cold front coming in this week will help keep this storm out to sea. This same front will bring high temperatures in Tampa Bay only in the upper 60s by Friday.

We have a little more than two weeks to go in the 2018 hurricane season. Hurricane season officially ends November 30th.
