4 airlifted to Florida after tour bus crash in the Bahamas

The wounded were on a shore excursion from a Carnival cruise ship when the crash happened.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — At least four people were reportedly airlifted from the Bahamas to Fort Lauderdale after a serious tour bus crash.

WFOR in Miami reports a C-130 military plane landed Monday afternoon with the patients, who were then taken to Broward General Hospital.

Carnival Cruise Lines said the people on the bus were passengers from the Carnival Ecstasy on a shore excursion when the accident happened.

The cruise line released a statement:

“This morning, a shore excursion bus with 32 guests from Carnival Ecstasy was involved in an accident near Rock Sound, Eleuthera (The Bahamas), which is 20 minutes north of Princess Cays.

"All guests were seen at the local medical clinic and 28 have been cleared to return to the ship. Four guests with injuries are being airlifted for hospital treatment. Carnival’s CareTeam is providing support to the guests.

"The cause of the accident is being investigated. In the meantime, the Cathedral Cove, Ocean Hole, and Rock Sound Island Tour has been suspended.

"Carnival Ecstasy is on a six-day Bahamas cruise that departed Jacksonville on June 22.”

ZNS in the Bahamas reported two other patients were airlifted to New Providence in Nassau.
