RUSKIN, Fla. — A 20-year-old man is behind bars after deputies say he stabbed and killed one of his family members Sunday afternoon in Ruskin.

Juan Rodriguez Ramirez was charged with second-degree murder with a weapon.

At 12:52 p.m., authorities received a call regarding a man who was stabbed in the 700 block of 21st Avenue Southeast, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. When deputies arrived, they said they found the man dead with upper-body trauma.

After launching an investigation, law enforcement reportedly discovered there was an argument between Ramirez and the dead man that escalated into Ramirez stabbing him.

"It is profoundly disheartening that what began as a disagreement between family members has tragically resulted in the irreplaceable loss of a life," Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "Violence is never a solution, and now, the suspect will now have to face the severe consequences of his actions.”

The investigation of the incident remains ongoing.
