MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies are searching for a person they believe abandoned a kitten in the parking lot of the Manatee County Animal Services building in Palmetto.
Animal care staff say it appears the kitten was released in the parking lot Monday afternoon and was then hit by a vehicle. The kitten received life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition, according to animal services.
Staff members are remaining hopeful and have named the kitten "Von" which they say means "hope."
"We want to remind the public that animal abandonment is a crime," animal services officials wrote on Facebook. "Any owner who abandons an animal and such animal suffers injury or malnutrition or abandons any animal in a street, road or public place, without providing care is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree."
Animal workers did not announce any description of the person they are hoping to track down. However, if you saw anything that could help with the investigation, you are urged to call animal services staff at 941-742-5933.
