Tampa Heights Elementary Magnet named the 10News School of the Week powered by Duke Energy Florida

Congrats to the students, teachers and staff at Tampa Heights Elementary Magnet.

TAMPA, Fla. — We’re happy to announce Tampa Heights Elementary Magnet in Hillsborough County as our 10News School of the Week powered by Duke Energy Florida.

The school was previously known as Lee Elementary, but the building suffered an electrical fire after Hurricane Irma. Instead of closing the doors forever and reassigning students to various schools, they relocated to portables on Lockhart Elementary campus.

Even though the school is on the campus of the other elementary school, it is completely independent. Classrooms are in portables. There’s also a portable that serves as a media center, one as the cafeteria, one as a teacher’s lounge and even one as a school office. They thought of everything.

The school is home to the Global Leadership Academy and focus on the 7 Wonders of Tampa Heights (Leadership, Economics, Environment, Wellness, Innovation, Communication, and Culture). Seven wonders to match with the seven continents.

Walking on the campus, you can easily see the international influence with from flags to bricks featuring different countries. Inside the classroom, you might find students studying U.S. economy, but then also comparing and discussing the economy of Australia.

Tampa Heights will reopen on its old campus with the rebuilt of the Lee Elementary building in fall 2020. Until then, the innovation continues. The learning won’t stop at Tampa Heights Elementary Magnet.
