INVERNESS, Fla. — A 62-year-old man from Hernando County was killed after he reportedly lost control of his car, crashed and went airborne in Citrus County, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened just after 4:15 a.m. Monday on U.S. 41 near Davidson Avenue in Inverness.

The man was reportedly driving southbound on U.S. 41 when he lost control of the car for an unknown reason just south of Davidson Avenue.

After losing control of the car, FHP says the 62-year-old entered a construction zone where the car hit a water pipe, went airborne, hit a tree and overturned.

The man died from injuries sustained in the crash, troopers said.
