'It's tough': Pregnant mother recovering after getting shot near Armature Works

A teenager was arrested in connection to the shooting Tuesday. Police said there is another person of interest.

TAMPA, Fla. — The last day has felt like an eternity for Josh Brown and his family.

"It's going to be a long journey. I know that, but I know with all the prayers and faith in God that we'll be able to get over this," he said.

Brown's wife Jenny Raymer Brown, who is pregnant, was among four people hurt during a shooting near Armature Works on Tuesday. Tampa police have so far arrested one teenager and have another person of interest. They believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation between two groups of teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17.

Jenny Brown was shot in both legs and underwent surgery as a result, her family said.

Josh Brown and his wife, including their infant daughter, were eating at Stones Throw Restaurant when shots were fired.

He said he immediately grabbed his baby and got down with his wife.

"I didn't realize that Jenny was the one that got shot, and then when I looked down at her legs and saw all the blood, we heard two shots at that point," he said.

For the last day, Josh Brown said he's experienced a mix of emotions from anger, sadness, and gratitude that it wasn't worse. He said he's processing how his family became victims of the crime when they were just innocent bystanders.

The family had moved to Tampa from Utah six months ago. It became a weekly tradition to dine in at Armature Works every Tuesday.

With a baby boy due in September, Josh Brown said any financial support amid this latest challenge is helpful.

"She is definitely in a lot of pain," he said. "You just never know, you know, when you're going out that that could happen until it happens to you.

However, the family of Jenny Brown said she's a strong-willed person who's overcome adversity in her life before and who has defied the odds in other challenges.

"We're very angry, very angry that this would happen to compromise her, her family, her children," her father Danny Reymer told 10 Tampa Bay.

Tampa police are encouraging anyone with information or video of the scene to contact them. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
