Monkey missing in Pasco County has been found, owner says

The capuchin monkey appears to have been drawn to some shiny tools.

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — A missing Capuchin monkey has been found and returned home, its owner said.

Donnatto went missing last week in the area of Handcart Road in Zephyrhills. Owner Rachel O'Connor said she's had the domesticated primate for two years, and he has never gotten out before.

To track him down, she reached out to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and a conservation group in Brazil, where capuchin monkeys like Donnatto are originally from. The organizations gave her a number of helpful hints, including that these don’t typically travel beyond a three-mile radius.

Two miles away, O'Connor was in the Watergrass subdivision when she found Donnatto. The monkey was sitting on a piece of yellow construction equipment with workers nearby. They pointed out the monkey to O’Connor, who used hand signals to get him down.

O’Connor says she ultimately wasn’t surprised to find Donnatto there because he loves shiny tools and humans. And of course, she is so glad to have him home.
