Bicyclist killed in East Tampa hit-and-run

Police say they identified the driver's car but did not say if an arrest has been made.

TAMPA, Fla. — A 57-year-old man is dead after someone hit him with their car as he was riding his bicycle in East Tampa, police say. The driver didn't stop.

Tampa police officers said they were called around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday to an area near the intersection of N. 19th Street and E. 21st Avenue. When they arrived, they found the bicyclist in the roadway. Police say he was unresponsive after being hit by a car.

Tampa Fire Rescue attempted life-saving measures and the man was rushed to the hospital but he died from his injuries.

Detectives say they have reviewed "potential" evidence and learned the driver of a dark-colored sedan hit the bicyclist and kept on driving. Police have not said an arrest has been made.
