When do Florida's new constitutional amendments go into effect?

According to state law, amendments passed go into effect on the "first Tuesday after the first Monday in January following the election."

All but one of Florida's 12 constitutional amendment proposals on the Nov. 6 ballot passed.

According to state law, amendments go into effect "on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in January following the election." That would be Jan. 8, 2019.

That is -- unless the amendments specify another date.

Amendment 13, which bans greyhound and other dog racing, specifies it will be phased out by 2020.

Amendment 2, which limits property tax assessments, was written to take effect on Jan. 1, just a few days before the others.

All the proposed amendments needed at least 60 percent of votes to be enshrined in the state constitution.

On Tuesday night, voters passed amendments that put new limits on property tax, gave voters control over casino gambling and restored felon voting rights -- among other issues.
