KEY WEST, Fla. — Four people, including a 2-year-old boy, were rescued from the choppy waters off Sombrero Key by a quick-thinking Good Samaritan and the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard was called around 7:45 p.m. Saturday by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to help the people aboard a 20-foot capsized catamaran, according to a news release.
Watchstanders in Key West issued what's called an Urgent Marine Safety Information Broadcast to all boaters.
A crew was launched but in the meantime, a Good Samaritan responded to the broadcast and pulled the four people out of the water.
They included: Marvelynn Bass, 51; Amber Owens, 12; Josh Owens, 14; and Martin Bowens, 2. Everyone was wearing a life jacket.
The Coast Guard took them to Coast Guard Station Key West for evaluation. No one was hurt.
