One person killed in skydiving accident in central Florida

DeLand police responded to a skydiving accident that killed one man.

DELAND, Fla. — DeLand police opened an investigation into a skydiving incident that killed a man on Monday.

Giulianno Scotti, a 42-year-old man from Brazil, died when his parachute malfunctioned and he suffered a "hard landing," according to a news release from police

Police said two skydivers collided mid-air. 

Officers responded just before 2:30 p.m. to the DeLand Municipal Airport. Life-saving measures were attempted, but Scotti was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police. 

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Scotti was the third person to die in a skydiving accident in the past two years in Central Florida. In October, a person died in Titusville and in October 2022, a man was found dead at the DeLand airport from a skydiving incident.
