FORT MYERS, Fla. — The newest Publix store in the grocer's multi-state footprint opened Thursday at Fort Myers' San Carlos Shopping Center.

It's said to have just about everything shoppers can expect from the Lakeland-based company where, as they say, shopping is a pleasure. The store is located at 16950 San Carlos Boulevard just north of Summerlin Road.

"We are excited to welcome our customers to their new store at the San Carlos Shopping Center and look forward to providing them with the premier service and quality Publix is known for," spokesperson Lindsey Willis said in a statement.

Featuring a full-service deli counter, produce with plenty of Florida-grown selections, wine and a pharmacy, the store has multiple departments for next-to-one-stop shopping. A Publix Liquors location is next door, too, the company said.

In addition to announcing the store opening, Publix says it's also donating $1,000 in nonperishable items, including canned foods and cereals, to the Gladiolus Food Pantry.

"We are proud to be supporting our local community, with our donation of these in-demand food items," Willis said in the statement. "As a food retailer, we know the importance of food around the table and no person should ever have to wonder where their next meal will come from. At Publix, we believe our greatest opportunity to give back is by helping to alleviate food insecurity in the communities we serve."

Publix operates 1,367 stores across the southern U.S. and recently expanded into Louisville, Kentucky.
