NHC tracking 4 systems in the tropics, including a potential hurricane

Hurricane watches and tropical storm warnings are in effect for parts of Mexico and the Central American coastline.

With the peak of hurricane season nearing, there is a lot to track in the tropics.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring four systems, one of which might become a hurricane late Wednesday night. The other systems being tracked include Tropical Depression Omar and two are tropical waves with the potential for development.

Tropical Storms Nana and Omar formed Tuesday. Omar, as expected, has already weakened to a tropical depression. Nana remains a strong tropical storm and could become a hurricane late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning before making landfall in Belize.

Hurricane warnings and tropical storm warnings are in effect for parts of Mexico and the Central American coastline.

Neither Nana nor Omar poses a threat to Florida or the rest of the United States.

Further away, NHC is also tracking Invest 91-L off the coast of Africa and another tropical wave just emerging off the coast of Africa Wednesday afternoon. Invest 91-L has a 30-percent chance of development over the next 5 days. The tropical wave behind it has a 60-percent chance of development over the next 5 days.
