ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — As we continue to trek our way through the last month of hurricane season, the tropics aren't showing signs of quieting down just yet!
The National Hurricane Center is closely monitoring an area in the northeastern Caribbean Sea and southwestern Atlantic, Invest 98-L.
Environmental conditions will support gradual subtropical or tropical development beginning early next week while it moves generally northwestward or westward over the southwestern Atlantic, according to the Hurricane Center. Invest 98-L currently has a 90% chance of development over the next 5 days.
It will still bring heavy rainfall, the risk of coastal flooding, strong winds and rough surf. The southeastern United States coast, Florida and the Bahamas will all feel the impacts from this system for the middle of next week.
At the same time, another area of disturbed weather comes into play. Currently, Invest 97-L is a area of low pressure producing that is becoming more organized and starting to show tropical characteristics.
It does have the chance to develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm tonight into Sunday. It is no threat to the United States as a cold front will pick it up and move it quickly to the north next week.
The National Hurricane Center currently is giving this area a 70% chance of development over the next 48 hours. Nicole and Owen are the next two names for the 2022 tropical season.
