ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A man on an adult tricycle was killed after being hit by a Publix semi-truck Saturday in St. Petersburg, according to a news release.
St. Petersburg Police Department said they received a call at 6:15 p.m. about the incident, which happened on 66th Street North at 5th Avenue North.
Police identified James Joseph Christiano II, 29, as the man on the tricycle and the semi-truck driver as 32-year-old Shannon Tyrone Morrell of Dade City.
Police said, "Morrell did not see Christiano, who was in the marked crosswalk on a green crossing signal, when his rear tire struck him." Christiano died at the scene, police said.
The driver stayed on the scene and was cooperative, the department noted. The intersection was closed for several hours.
The investigation is still ongoing.
