ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said an inmate at the jail tried to hire a hit man to kill an ex-girlfriend.
Christopher Butler, 39, is already in jail with a charge of aggravated assault against his ex-girlfriend. Jail records show his alias is "C Murder."
A police report said Butler head-butted the woman in the mouth, causing her to bleed heavily. Court records also say the victim has a restraining order against Butler.
Deputies say Butler solicited a hit man, who was actually a confidential informant, by handwriting notes and providing the informant with personal information about the victim. Butler also gave the informant a handwritten contract signing over his "2002 Ford Windstar van" as initial payment for the murder.
Law enforcement said recordings show Butler telling the informant to go by the victim's house and "light her a** up," "you gotta make every shot count," and "we don't need no wounded; we need a b**** not breathing."
Deputies say Butler acknowledged it was his voice on the recordings and said his statements were made "out of anger."
Butler is now charged with solicitation to commit murder in the first degree.
