'My Fairy Godfathers' surprise high school student with prom makeover

Steven Anderson and Andrew Ashton from My Fairy Godfathers say Miriam’s ability to persevere and excel is why they chose her for the makeover.

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — A Tampa Bay area foundation called, My Fairy Godfathers, surprised a Pinellas Park High School student with a complete prom makeover.

Miriam Villa Batista couldn’t afford to attend the Saturday night celebration and she was extremely busy. The senior balances a full class load, advanced placement classes and a job that she took on to help her struggling family pay the bills.

Steven Anderson and Andrew Ashton from My Fairy Godfathers say Miriam’s ability to persevere and excel in extreme circumstances is why they chose her for the makeover. She got a new dress, jewelry, shoes plus dinner and a limo for the night.

The My Fairy Godfathers Foundation has been helping women with cancer, abuse victims and other women who face hardships. This year, the foundation says it has already helped 2,000 women – most of them in the Tampa Bay area.
