Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge land to open in August at Disney World

The Star Wars-themed land will open Aug. 29 at Disney's Hollywood Studios park.

ORLANDO, Fla. — A week after revealing even more details about the long-awaited Star Wars land, Disney announced opening dates for Galaxy's Edge.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will open May 31 at Disneyland in California and Aug. 29 at Disney World's Hollywood Studios. The company said the lands are opening "ahead of schedule" because of "high guest interest."

Opening day at the lands is "phase one," which will include chances to board the Millennium Falcon for the Smugglers Run ride, be able to try galactic-themed food and drinks and shop in the Black Spire Outpost market.

"Phase two" opens later in the year and will include Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. The ride is billed as "the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction every imagined." It will put guests in the middle of an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

Those wanting to experience Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland between May 31 and June 23 will need theme park admission and a separate reservation.

Reservations for Galaxy's Edge at Disney World will not be offered or required.
