The backlog of unpaid tolls from the SunPass computer problems totals $90 million, Florida Department of Transportation officials said Tuesday. The numbers were provided to 10Investigates after weeks of pushing for answers.
The money is owed not only to FDOT but to other tolling entities, including the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority and the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority.
FDOT says there will be no fines or fees added to the unpaid tolls, and drivers won't be sent to collections, though tolling entities like THEA have done that.

For more than a year, the state has been dealing with the aftermath of a botched SunPass systems upgrade. While $90 million remains uncollected, FDOT said roughly $800 million has been collected for tolls owed between June and December 2018.
Of the $90 million, $62 million is owed directly to FDOT.
For the past few years, FDOT says the leakage has been about 7 percent. They estimate the current leakage or deficit from the backlog is about 10 percent but clarified to 10News that the estimate is not yet official.
The money owed by drivers is used specifically to maintain toll roads.
10Investigates has been asking for seven weeks how big the backlog was.
The numbers were delayed because Conduent, the contractor blamed for the computer issues, and Florida's Turnpike had to build a new system to calculate tolls and include the other tolling entities.
