Tropical Storm Margot expected to become a hurricane Monday

It will remain away from land.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Tropical Storm Margot continues to move across the central Atlantic, and is expected to become the season's next hurricane this week.

Margot's story started last week when the National Hurricane Center started releasing advisories on the system when it was just Tropical Depression Fourteen. Later that same day, it became more organized and was designated as Tropical Storm Margot.

Tropical Storm Margot is located about 1,215 miles northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, according to the hurricane center's latest update. It's packing 65 mph winds and moving north at 8 mph.

From there, forecasters say Margot is expected to continue moving to the north over the next several days.

Conditions in the Atlantic are conducive for Tropical Storm Margot to reach hurricane strength — 74 mph winds or higher — by Monday night. From there, forecasters believe it could even strengthen a little over the next few days.

As the week goes on, however, Margot is expected to weaken as conditions become less favorable.

Throughout the storm's journey, it's not expected to impact land.
