Toddler learns to walk for first time in her life

Alexa Prieto lost both of her legs when she was three months old after an infection.

TAMPA, Fla. — A 3-year-old Cuban girl will be able to run and play with her brother for the first time ever, thanks to doctors in Tampa. 

Alexa Prieto lost both of her legs when she was 3 months old after an infection.

The toddler has been in Tampa at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children over the past few months undergoing surgeries and getting her prosthetic legs.

Alexa’s journey is about to come full circle. Her last physical therapy appointment on her new legs was Thursday. Next month, she will head back to Cuba and will be able to fulfill her lifelong dream of playing with her brother.
