Bicyclist injured in Clearwater hit-and-run crash

Drivers were asked to avoid the area of Myrtle Avenue and Jones Street.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Clearwater police officers responded to a hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclist Tuesday afternoon.

Just before 3:30 p.m., police officers responded to the area of Myrtle Avenue and Jones Street near U.S. Highway 19 where a person on a bike sustained "serious injuries" in a hit-and-run crash, the agency said.

On Wednesday, police released images of the possible vehicle used in the crash. "It could be a Toyota or Hyundai missing a right rear hubcap," police said in a tweet. The white hatchback-style vehicle also may have a damaged hood, police said in a statement.

The cyclist has still not been identified and remains in critical condition at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. Anyone with information on the case should call Clearwater Police at 727-562-4242.
